Welcome, to Mrs. Poliska's Third Grade Class
I remember stepping into the portable classroom for the first time at Alta Murrieta back in 1988. The pathways weren't paved yet, so I was careful not get any mud on the new carpet. This school was quite different from the schools where I taught in Orange County. I wondered, "How was I to greet students in an empty room?" I imagined how they might feel moving to a new neighborhood and feeling nervous meeting new friends. Nevertheless, my stomach fluttered in reaction to knowing I had been blessed in helping launch a brand new school.
Nearly 30 years later, I still get butterflies just before my new students arrive on their first day of school. Each year of teaching is unique to the students who make up our class. Each child comes to school with different experiences and perspectives that influence how he or she learns. I want to assure you that I take this into consideration while planning how best to meet their needs. I consider the social, emotional, developmental level, and academic needs of my students. Therefore I am constantly making adjustments in class to support and challenge them. I also realize that the partnership and communication between home and school is critical for the positive growth of your child.
I want to encourage you to stop by once in awhile to visit your child's classroom. You don't need to wait untl conferences or Open House in May. Your child spends several hours a day in class, and would be delighted to share what happens in school. I realize, as a working mom, that it isn't always easy to leave work, but if you have a day off, you are welcome to visit and meet some of the other students your child interacts with on a daily basis.
