2010/11 Accountability Progress Report

Academic Performance Index (API)

The State of California 2010/11 Accountability Progress Report shows Murrieta schools are among the highest scoring schools in Riverside County. The District's Academic Performance Index (API) score increased to 843, exceeding the state's goal of 800. Eighteen out of twenty district schools exceeded the exemplary mark of 800 on the API Growth report and almost every school noted significant growth over last year's API score. API scores can range from 200 to 1000 with scores above 800 being the goal for all schools and districts.

These results show a committment to student success. District and school administrators review student achievement data to analyze the scores by school, by sub-group, and by individual student to ensure the educational program is meeting the needs of all students.

The API is the cornerstone of California's accountability system and scores are based on the California Standards Tests, the California Achievement Test (CAT/6) and the California High School Exit Exam.

Academic Performance Indexes are also calculated for subgroups—ethnic minorities, economically disadvantaged, English learners and students with disabilities. All subgroups in the District made significant gains.

"N/A"

means a number is not applicable or not available due to missing data.

" * "  means this API is calculated for a small school or LEA, defined as having between 11 and 99 valid Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program test scores included in the API. APIs based on small numbers of students are less reliable and therefore should be carefully interpreted.

"A"

means the school scored at or above the statewide performance target of 800 in 2009.
"B"

means the school did not have a valid 2010 Base API and will not have any growth or target information.

"C"

means the school had significant demographic changes and will not have any growth or target information.

"D"
an Alternative Schools Accountability Model (ASAM) school,
Targets Met - In the "Met Growth Target" columns, the growth targets reflect state accountability requirements and do not match the federal Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) requirements. The AYP requirement for the API is a 2011 Growth API of 620, or a one-point increase from the 2010 Base API to 2011 Growth API.
