MS 101 Parent Information Workshop
Description
All parents of students going into grades 6-8 are invited to attend the MS 101 Parent Informational Workshop to learn about technology, college and career planning, PSAT 8, social media, college systems, middle school math, how to meet middle schooler's social emotional needs and more.

WORKSHOP TOPICS:
TECHNOLOGY
This workshop will provide parents with an overview and hands-on practice of the technology available to students and families in Murrieta Valley USD. Information on: Haiku, Aeries, Office 365, MVUSD student e-mail, staff websites and “tips” on how best to communicate with staff and/or teachers.
CCGI (California College Guidance Initiative)
MVUSD is in the 2nd year of implementing CCGI for grades 6-12 as we prepare students to be “Career and College Ready”. CCGI is a web-site that can be accessed from any electronic device and helps students complete interest inventories, explore various careers, conduct college searches and create goals. Learn how parents can view their students’ CCGI account.
PSAT 8
Your student has taken the PSAT, now what? Learn the importance of taking the PSAT during 8th grade, components of the test, how to read results, College Board resources your student will have access to and how the PSAT assists in high school.
SOCIAL MEDIA
This session will provide parents with information on how to encourage social media responsibly. Learn the trends and tips for monitoring 21st Century social media usage.
COLLEGE SYSTEMS
This session will provide participants with an overview of high school and testing requirements of the CSU, UC, Community College and Technical/Vocational Schools. This workshop will help parents support their students’ pursuit of higher education.
Q & A High School Student Panel: “My Transition From MS to HS”
This workshop is for any middle school parent. High school students in grades 9-12 will provide parents with their “story” as to how they made the transition from MS to HS. Students will share with parents advice on what parents and middle school students can do now in preparation for their futures.
SOCIAL EMOTIONAL NEEDS OF MS STUDENTS
During this workshop session, middle school counselors will provide parents with an understanding of the physical and emotional changes that are occurring during the “middle years”. Parents will also be provided with tips on how to work with children in grades 6-8 and resources within the district and community.
MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH
MVUSD Math teachers will provide an overview of math topics covered in each grade and provide resources available to stu-dents and parents. Participants will also learn some great tricks on how to guide your student to problem solving and the importance of Think Through Math (TTM). Each school will present information about before and after school tutoring and intervention help.
