    About Me
I was born in Port Hueneme, California.  My father was stationed there as a SeeBee in the Navy at the time - the first officer in command of the first Underwater Construction Unit on the West Coast.  My sister was born two years later, and when I was six, we moved to North Carolina for three years, before returning to San Diego, where my parents settled and remained.
I graduated from Santana High School in Santee, California, lettering in Academic Decathalon and Academic League.  My Senior year the Academic League Team  won League Co-Champions.  My specialties on the team were Literature, Calculus, Physics and French.  I was a serious AP student (AP English Language, US History, Physics my Junior year, and AP English Literature, French, Government and Calculus my Senior year), and a proud nerd!  I was also painfully shy and quiet.
After high school, I attended the University of San Diego, where I  was awarded an academic scholarship, and majored in English and minored in Theater Arts.  At USD, I was very active in the undergraduate theater productions, attaining the lead in both undergraduate productions my Senior Year, and I tutored in the University's Writing Center for eight semesters.  I also completed my teacher's credential as an undergraduate student, and began student teaching at the age of 21.  After auditioning for an MFA in Acting for Harvard, Yale and NYU (knowing I had very little chance of getting in, but it was a dream, and I'm very glad I did it), I went strait into my Master's Degree in Education at USD, finishing that while working as a substitute teacher before I accepted a contract at Rancho Bernardo High School in 1997.
My husband and I actually attended the same high school, and knew of each other since around 1989 or so. We began dating in 1993, and maintained a long distance relationship while he attended McPherson College in Kansas on a football scholarship.  We traveled together on our holidays and summers.  In 1994, we traveled, camping out of the back of a pick-up truck with a camper shell, for a month to Alaska and back.  In 1996, we traveled to his mother's birthplace in Newfoundland, Canada, with her for a month.  There were many other shorter trips in between.  We love camping.  In 1998, we were married and moved to Murrieta, where I was blessed to be offered a teaching position at MVHS.  Mr. Stone was a meat-cutter at the time, and commuted to work until he began teaching in 2001.  He now teaches Language Arts and Social Science at Shivela Middle School.  In 2000, we welcomed our first child, Tyler, followed by our twins, Julia and Rachel, in 2003, and finally Mikaila, in 2006.
In 2006, we finally were able to return to our camping and traveling with the purchase of a motor home that allows us to manage our children on trips.  So far we've taken it to: Albequerque, New Mexico; Port Aransas, Texas; Carlsbad Caverns National Park; Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming; Glacier National Park in Montana; Yosemite National park in California; the Grand Canyon; Mesa Verde; Mount Rushmore; the Crazy Horse Monument; Custer State Park; New York, New York; Washington D.C.; Prince Edward Island, Canada; Lanse aux Meadows, Newfoundland, Canada; Gros Mourne National Park, Newfoundland, Canada; passing through the following of the United States:  Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming.  In the summer of 2010, we traveled by motorhome to the East Coast and Newfoundland, Canada with it to visit family - 10,000 miles in 46 days.
Throughout my years in education, I have taught ELD, SDAIE English I and II, English I, Advanced English I, English II, Themes in American Literature, American Studies, English III, Expository Reading and Writing 11, British Literature, AVID 9, AVID 10, AVID 11, AVID 12, Academic Seminar, and AP English Language.
