• March 26 Email to Families:

    Good morning Families,
It was wonderful to hear from so many of you yesterday, thank you for emailing me. Also, I was excited to see so many of you sign up for Epic! Please let me know what you think of it after you have an opportunity to explore.

When our Distance Learning begins April 6th we will be utilizing Microsoft 365. It is a program in this district that all students are enrolled in. It is a great place to write responses and essays and submit them to me when completed. If you'd like your child to give it a try before April 6th I have written step by step directions below.

    A. On the Tovashal's Student Links page please click on Office 365
    B. Enter your school email address: ninedigitnumber@mvusd.org
    C. Enter your password: MvusdMMDD! (same password used for most programs)
    D. Click on Word
    E. Click on New Blank Document
    F. Please type your name and type one sentence: 4th graders are awesome!
    G. Click Share
    H. Type my first initial and last name: lblumenshine
    I. When my email appears click on it
    J. Click send and you're done!

Please don't stress about this. If you aren't able to get it sent please send me an email and let me know you tried.

Below is a link to Go Noodle, a fun and free website we use on rainy or hot days and have to stay inside for PE. It gets them moving (and burning energy) even though they're inside most of the day.

    Take care!

    March 25th email to families:

    Good morning families,
I hope you're doing well. I’m glad I’m getting a chance to connect with you all. I’m missing my students so much right now and would love to hear from them too. If they are able to send an email letting me know how they are doing and what they’ve been up to, I would love that.

Below you'll find more information that will help as we move toward Distance Learning.

The site code for Imagine Learning is 0600029.

Reminder: Distance Learning begins Monday, April 6th. We are required to provide 2 - 2.5 hours of lessons, activities, and assignments per day to help the children access the 4th grade standards. Each week we will send home a weekly schedule of "Lessons at Home" with daily activities. The first week's schedule will be emailed on Sunday, April 5th.

    EPIC
We wanted to let you know of a great opportunity to increase your child's at home reading material. Your "Lessons at Home" schedule will include designated reading time from a book of their choice. The website, Epic, gives students unlimited access to over 35,000 books and videos. They can access Epic on a smartphone, iPad or computer. Epic is free for classroom use, however, it is now being offered absolutely free for home use until 6/30/20. You do not need to input any credit card information. All you need to do is let me know if you give me permission to share your email address with Epic. Then you will receive information from their site about how to log in.

If you are interested, please reply back and I'll forward your email address to the company.

Below is a link to a "Home Safari" at the Cincinnati Zoo. It features Fiona the hippo. It's about 25 minutes long and it's full of great info and it's super cute as well. Enjoy!

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!

    March 24th email to families:

    Good morning,

I hope you all continue to stay safe. Can you please respond to this email with your child's name so I can ensure these emails are reaching every family in Room 26? Thank you!

Reminder: Assigned Distance Learning will begin Monday, April 6th. You will receive a schedule of activities and assignments weekly. We plan to send the first week's schedule on Sunday, April 5th. You will get more information before then. The school district has sent announcements and provided you with programs to explore until April 6th. We will then continue to use many of those programs as we move forward. I was excited to see this morning that so many of you have begun using i-Ready Reading and continue to use i-Ready Math! Please don't stress now about this, it is not required at this time.

We will also be using the Imagine Learning program and it is available now. The publisher has opened it up to all students. It is an excellent resource for Reading and Vocabulary building. Mrs. Lindsley, Tovashal's IL expert, suggests skipping the initial assessment and just start with the lessons. She said the assessment is VERY long and unnecessary. The login is the same as the other programs.

I also want to pass on a few resources for you to explore at home with your child if you'd like.

Audible is offering audio books to children for free as long as the schools are closed. There are many great titles available and some have Reading Counts quizzes available.

Below is a link to a mini-lesson on Mystery Science about germs and hand sanitizer. They are developing an easy to use app that I'll share when ready but in the meantime I can share links to mini-lessons. They are usually about 5 minutes long and the kids really enjoy them.

Please do not hesitate to email with questions or concerns. I want to support you in any way I can.

Please don't forget to reply to this email so I know who has seen the emails.

    Thank you!

    Mrs. Blumenshine
