  • Fall Festivities...

Posted by Cortnee Ingram on 11/5/2013
The past few weeks have been fun and crafty :) As I am sure you have seen, we have been doing some new crafts to decorate our room. The kids love decorating for the holidays, and so do we!

The first few weeks we made some "spooky trees" out of paper bags and tissue paper. We also made some leaves and acorns for our Fall tree, and we made some cute glitter pumpkins for the wall.

After that we moved onto some bats, pumpkin garland, a haunted house, and a HUGE spider for the middle of the ceiling! Probably one of the best things we have made so far :)

Next we decided to make some fall playdough and flubber from scratch! The kids LOVE doing things like this. The older kids read the recipes to the younger kids so they all get to participate. All we do is supervise! You would be amazed at how well your children do in the kitchen :)

Finally we finished our festivities with some pumpkin, frankenstein, and ghost popsicle stick crafts. This was a great week long project that your children loved seeing transform each day into something fun :) We also got to make our "Monster Mouth" snack with apples, peanut butter, and candy corn :)

There is a photo gallery posted of all these great activities here.

Stay tuned for this months activities!

    Thank you,
    Miss Cortnee :)

  • Kinder Club Time...

Posted by Cortnee Ingram on 11/5/2013
Today we read "There Was An Old Monster!" by Rebecca, Adrian & Ed Emberley. The story is about a monster who eats a tick. After eating the tick he decides to swallow more things in order to get rid of it. it's a wonderful story with a surprise ending. Ask your Kinder and they will tell you :)

After the story we drew a picture and wrote a sentence about what we drew. The Kinders did this all on their own. It is great practice for 1st grade!

Take a look at the picture gallery for pictures of their creative writing here :)

During our Kinder session we learned how to count using pony beads and pipe cleaners. First we sorted our beads by color, then we rolled the dice to see how many beads of a particular color we needed to put onto our pipe cleaners. The kids LOVED this activity :) This is a wonderful way to work on fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination!

This morning our Kinders started using their math brains :) They counted and colored to match what was in the square.

In the afternoon we had inclimate weather so we headed to the MPR for some games. We played "Smugglers" and "Crab Soccer." Ask your child how much fun they had!

Don't forget to tell your child what homework you would like them to complete in class. We dedicate 30 minutes to working with each student every day :)

    Have a great evening...

This week we are implementing our "Terrific Tickets" program. We are passing out tickets for students who go above and beyond by helping a friend, showing compassion, cleaning up after themselves without having to be asked, etc. If your child gets a ticket they can place it in our raffle and one ticket will be pulled every day. Whoever gets their ticket pulled will get a choice of prize; treasure box, otter pop, or free play on the computer! This is going to be a great way to use positive reinforcement for good behavior :)

Yesterday Daniella Flores was the winner!!

Stay tuned for more info. tomorrow :)
