2018/19 School Year CalendarThe 2018/19 school year will start on August 15 and end on June 7.
School Board Trustees approved the school year calendars for the 2018/19 and 2019/20 school year at the December 14, 2017 meeting. Prior to approval of the calendars, the district conducted two calendar surveys of parents and staff, receiving over 3,000 responses to each survey. The goals for the school year calendar are to optimize student learning, meet the state requirement of 180 student days and allow enough time for students to finish the semester and take finals before they go on Winter break.
A calendar committee, comprised of teachers, classified staff and district administrators, met for several sessions over the last year before recommending the calendars for board approved.
Starting in 2018/19, Spring break will be reduced from two weeks to one week and school will be out a week earlier in June. Committee members cited the advantages of eliminating the second week of Spring break. Having another week in class during the second semester, will give students one more week of focused instruction prior to CAASPP tests, AP tests and finals. In addition, less time off during the school year extends the summer break for students and families.
