     New sight words for the week: help, too

    ***NEW SKILL!! This week we would be introducing the long a in reading. We have talked a lot about this in class as the silent e (also called magic e) so the kiddos are familiar. You will see it now in the reading on Wonders. There will be a couple short video/lessons to practice.

     Optional Science Activity: Invent an Insect!! Share pictures, PLEASE, if you do this!!! It is fun! Optional Coloring Pages – show me your beautiful coloring!

    • In the search section, type insects.  There is a good intro video, Insects, Insects Everywhere, that the kids would like! Then explore Hello, Little Ladybug.  Great life cycle images! Search for Bee video and fun games.

    Silent e video  

    ◦ "Write Magic e words" page, use virtual pencil at the bottom of the page and have a parent check.

    ◦ Kids read Jake and Dale Help.  This is an "on level" book.  Kids should first look at the pictures, then read it with you and then independently.  Since this is their first story with many silent e words it will be a bit slower going.

    ◦ There are also “beyond" level readers attached for those who need them.

    • Choose a sight word page and practice Rainbow Words 

    • Writing – This week is Kaleo's Birthday so AM and PM kids can write 2 sentences and a picture. Then, check for correct capitals, word spacing, handwriting, and end marks. After practicing reading them make a Flipgrid showing the picture and reading the sentences or just take a picture and email it to me and I will forward it.

    ◦ Opt: Dave Can Bake Passage or Opt: The Pet We Want

    Then using the attached paper or your own paper write your opinion on this book.  An opinion says if you like it or not and gives a reason why.  We usually use "because."  For example, I liked the Grouchy Ladybug book because, I thought it was funny when the whale knocks the bug bag for so long.  Encourage the children to do this independently.  Then help them to check for correct capitals, word spacing, handwriting, and end marks.
