The primary responsibilities of the Board of Education include:

  • Setting district policy
  • Establishing district goals
  • Ensuring that the district is compliant with Federal, State, and local requirements
  • Approving a budget that prioritizes the established goals and maintaining contractual relationships with the Murrieta Educators Association and the California School Employees Association.

Authority is vested in the board as a collective body, not individual members. Board members fulfill their responsibilities by working together as a governance team with the Superintendent to make decisions in the best interest of all the students in the community.

The Board of Education appoints the Superintendent of Schools, who serves as the District's Chief Executive Officer. The Superintendent also acts as the Secretary to the Board of Education and is responsible for preparing Board agendas and maintaining official Board records and files.
