8th
Grade Bridge Program-French 4 2009
I.
You are required
to teach 1 lesson and a second is optional for extra credit.
The lesson must be taught by the end of February.
Make contact with teachers from Thompson Middle School, Cole Canyon Elementary
or Murrieta Elementary. Find a teacher willing to allow you to teach
1 lesson (about 30 minutes) in an 8th grade classroom.
II.
Communicate with the teacher
before your first lesson to discuss lesson time, duration, student population,
the number of students, and snacks or rewards in the classroom. The
teacher also needs to be willing to evaluate your performance.
III.
Get
permission from your MVHS teacher to miss class.
On the "Permission to Miss Class" form, fill in the date that you will
be missing that class. Have the teacher sign it. Return
it to me. (Due February 2)
IV.
Confirm
through email the exact date and time that
you will be teaching with the middle school/elementary teacher. "CC"
me this confirmation email.
(Due to me by February
15)
Find out how many students
are in the class you will be teaching.
V.
Your
formal lesson plan will include the following:
"Why
take French?" discussion points
5-Step Lesson Plan that
we will explain:
1
- the introduction (attention grabber, visuals to be used, etc.)
2
- the demonstration (way of teaching and explaining)
3
- method of feedback (how you will question the class to be sure that they
understand- can be verbal or activty based; anything to see how well they
learned the material)
4
- in class activity (art project/crossword/game->handout).
5
- assessment (quiz)
The
5-step lesson plans must be typed (25
points). A lesson plan is required before the lesson.
(Typed
copy due to Mme. Marsolais by January 29. You must also attach 1
copy of any worksheets or quizzes used.)
VI.
You
will present your lessons to our class as a practice before you
teach it in a “real” classroom. Arrange a date with me.
You will have all hand outs and visual completed, and use them for your
in class lesson presentation. (+10 points). You will be evaluated
by the other students in our class (+10 points) and by me (+20 points).
(DATES TBD)
VII.
Teachers
will receive an evaluation form through email each time you teach a lesson.
The teacher will be able to evaluate each lesson and also be able to call
or email me with other information. The form will require the teacher’s
signature. They may email it directly to me, send it via inter-district
mail, or hand it to you.
Have
fun and enjoy this experience! Even if you are not interested in
teaching as a profession, the classroom provides a great opportunity to
become comfortable relating to children. (You may have some of your own
someday!)
