In Language Arts this year we will continue to perfect the writing process writing: Narrative, Informative, and Document-Based-Questioning Essays. Students will read several short stories from our Prentice Hall Literature book, and three core literature novels: Boy of the Painted Cave, A Wrinkle in Time, and The Cay.
Our Social Studies curriculum is based on: World History; Ancient Civlizations. We will begin the year with a Geography review, then move onto the study of Archaeology, Early Man, Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Israel, Greece and the Rise of Rome. Students enjoy learning about Greek Mythology in the spring.
Suggested Supply List for Mrs. Pinkham’s 6th grade LA & SS Classes:
Two pencils – your choice of either mechanical with extra lead or manual with a manual pencil sharpener
Lined filler paper
A 70 page spiral notebook for taking SS notes
A Composition book for taking LA notes
A binder system that will keep your student organized. I recommend separate tabs for each core subject: Pockets are an excellent way to keep incoming and outgoing homework readily available
Colored pencils, Twistables, or crayons for the many projects we will complete in SS this year A lightweight silent reading book to keep your child engaged if/when they finish class work early.
