Hi! My name is Kathy Oldham and I teach first grade at Avaxat Elementary in Murrieta, CA. This is my ninth year teaching first grade. First grade is a very exciting grade to teach because the students experience so much academic growth at this age.
I love to see students discover the excitement of decoding words and comprehending stories they read. My goal is to create life long learners who enjoy academics and see the importance of education. I will encourage students to make good choices, give their best effort, and become good citizens. Students will also learn about taking on challenges, having a growth mindset, and becoming problem solvers. This year we are becoming a school-wide AVID school and I look forward to focusing on organization, student responsibility, and introducing students to a common language of systems and strategies they will hear throughout their education.
When I am not teaching I enjoy spending time with my family. I have been married for 29 years to my high school sweetheart. I have three children, Casey, a P.E. teacher in San Jacinto, Jessica, a Speech and Pathology graduate student at SFSU, and Rocket, a Bio-chemistry major at Humboldt State University.
