Early Childhood Education (ECE) Classrooms

At MVUSD, our Early Childhood Education (ECE) classrooms are thoughtfully arranged using the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS). This nationally recognized tool helps ensure our learning environment is developmentally appropriate, engaging, and effective.

Each classroom is designed to support growth across seven key domains:

  • Space and Furnishings
  • Personal Care Routines
  • Language and Reasoning
  • Activities
  • Interactions
  • Program Structure
  • Parent and Staff Relationships

All classrooms undergo annual ECERS assessments to maintain high-quality learning environments.

Curriculum & Assessment

Our ECE curriculum is guided by the California Preschool Learning Foundations, developed by the California Department of Education. Teachers use observation and assessment tools—particularly the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP)to tailor weekly lesson plans that meet the developmental needs and interests of each child.

Every child is assessed for 60 days and 6 months into the program using the DRDP, along with a digital portfolio that tracks their growth across all learning domains.

Program Goals

Our program is built on a strong foundation of developmentally appropriate practice and is designed to:

  • Create a safe, nurturing space where children are encouraged to explore and learn
  • Support physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development
  • Offer hands-on, inquiry-based activities that promote active learning
  • Empower parents as primary partners in their child’s development—parent involvement is highly encouraged
  • Provide access to medical, dental, mental health, and nutrition services or referrals
