Parent Rights

At Murrieta Valley USD, we are committed to fostering trust, transparency, and active partnerships with parents and guardians. Our district’s values are shaped by the community we serve, and we deeply respect the vital role families play in their students’ educational journey. We welcome and encourage parental involvement at every stage of their child’s academic journey.

Parents' rights and responsibilities are set forth in Board Policy 5020 and Administrative Regulation 5020.

The Board of Education supports the fundamental rights of parent(s)/guardian(s) to direct the care and upbringing of their children. To this end:

Information about AB 495 and the legal summary may be found on the  California Legislative  website. A secondary summary may also be found on CalMatters, Digital Democracy website.

To send a letter of  support or opposition to a current proposed bill, such as AB 495, contact the State of California Governor's Office.

Annual Notification to Parents

In compliance with Federal and State laws, Murrieta Valley USD is required to inform all parents and guardians of their legal rights related to their child’s participation in school programs and activities. This Annual Notification of Rights is included in the document confirmation packet provided at the start of each school year or upon a student’s enrollment.

We strongly encourage every parent and guardian to read and understand their legal rights as outlined in this document. These rights are protected under law and are essential to your involvement in your child’s education.

As part of the Annual Document Confirmation Process, parents and guardians are asked to review the Annual Notification and sign an acknowledgment of receipt, which is linked within the confirmation materials.
