Understanding new elementary report cards

After many years of traditional report cards that graded students on their skills and understanding in a particular subject along with their assignments, quizzes, tests, work habits and behavior, parents of elementary students are receiving the district's new standards-based elementary report cards this year.
Standards-based report cards give parents and students a more accurate view of a student’s progress in academics and separate grades for work habits, social skills and behavior.   The new report cards identify the skills students may be struggling with and provide a clear understanding of a student’s strengths.
Standards-based grading looks at grade level standards individually and a student’s growth in learning is assessed using the most recent evidence of learning rather than an accumulation of their learning throughout the grading period.
