Linguistic Engagement/Participation Rubric

Linguistic engagement/participation:

Linguistic engagement/participation within this course means students are using ASL (i.e. the target language) throughout the entire class. This includes always being visually engaged with signers and actively using ASL. Students are expected to exhibit linguistic engagement/participation throughout the entirety of this course. Students who, fail to demonstrate linguistic engagement/participation are subject to loss of participation points from the day’s lesson. Linguistic engagement/participation includes the following:

(1) Visual awareness 

 

(2) Encouraging a strong ASL environment

 

(3) Appropriate sounds for ASL

 

(4) Asking for clarification/repetitions when needed 

 

(5) Negotiating the visual environment
