El pluscuamperfecto (past perfect)
The perfect tenses | The perfect tenses are compound verb tenses, which means they are formed using two verbs. The first verb is the auxiliary, or helper verb, HABER. The second verb is any verb in its past participle form. | ||||||
How do you conjugate el pluscuamperfecto? | El pluscuamperfecto, or the past perfect, is formed similiarly to the present perfect. The only difference is that you must use the imperfect form of HABER HABER-to have

What does the pluscuamperfecto mean and how do you use it in a sentence? | El pluscuamperfecto means “had done something” Yo no había comido. I hadn´t eaten. You only use the pluscuamperfecto to talk about an action in the past that had already occurred BEFORE another action. | ||||||
Ejemplos: 1. We hadn´t cleaned the house when the television program started. 2. She hadn´t studied the vocabulary. | 1. No habíamos limpiado la casa cuando empezó el programa de televisión. 2. Ella no había estudiado el vocabulario y por eso reprobó. |
