School Safety

Murrieta Valley Unified School District (MVUSD) is committed to maintaining safe, secure, and supportive learning environments for all students and staff. While no safety plan is foolproof, we continuously review and strengthen our comprehensive safety measures, conduct emergency drills, collaborate with school safety experts, and provide social, emotional, and mental health support for students.

MVUSD works closely with the Murrieta Police Department, Murrieta Fire & Rescue, and the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Together, six School Resource Officers, including a Corporal and Sergeant assigned to juvenile services to help monitor campuses, build relationships with students, and support school safety efforts across the district.

Additional safety measures include security cameras at all schools and district facilities, the Raptor Visitor Management System for visitor screening and badge printing, a pilot elementary parent ID badge program, and a mass communication system that allows the district to quickly share important information with families.

School safety is a shared responsibility. We encourage students, families, and staff to stay informed and report any concerns or suspicious activity to school personnel.

There are multiple ways to report suspicious or illegal behavior or safety concerns:

• Call the Murrieta Police Department’s 24-hour dispatch at (951) 696-3615.

• Use the Tip Line on our website to report your concerns.

School Safety Plans

The safety of our students and staff is a top priority at every Murrieta Valley USD school. California law requires each school to maintain a comprehensive School Safety Plan that outlines procedures for emergency response, campus safety, and crisis preparedness.

These plans are reviewed annually with input from parents, staff, and community stakeholders and are updated each year to reflect current needs and best practices. The Board of Education formally approves each school's safety plan annually. A summary of the annual review is included in each school's School Accountability Report Card (SARC). Emergency Preparedness 

The safety of our students and staff is a top priority in Murrieta Valley Unified School District. Every school maintains a comprehensive Emergency and Disaster Preparedness Plan that outlines procedures for responding to a variety of situations, including fires, earthquakes, severe weather, hazardous materials incidents, acts of violence, and other emergencies.

To help students and staff prepare, schools conduct regular emergency drills throughout the year, including evacuation, earthquake ("Drop, Cover, and Hold On"), and lockdown drills. Each campus also maintains emergency supplies and equipment to support students and staff during a significant emergency or disaster.

California law requires schools to regularly review and update these plans to ensure they reflect current best practices and local needs. Families who would like additional information about their school's emergency procedures are encouraged to contact their school principal.

Cyber Safety

Helping students become safe, responsible digital citizens is an important part of education today. MVUSD provides resources and information to support safe internet use both at school and at home, helping students make informed and responsible choices online.

Murrieta Valley Unified School District is committed to providing safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environments for all students and employees.
