Teaching
Philosopy
My teaching philosophy rests
primarily upon the foundations of Sociocultural and Cognitive Learning
theories. These philosophies emphasize the importance of interpersonal
interactions, group activities, cultural context, and student centered
activity based learning. Active learning strategies geared toward
creating life long learners are an active part of the curriculum.
The rise of technology-based lessons is a wonderful supplement to strategies
such as TPR, TPR story telling, and the Natural Approach already used in
the classroom. Thanks to the integration of computer technology into
the curriculum, I have even more opportunities to motivate our students
to reach higher levels of learning.
According to Higgins (1988),
It has been said that the computer is fast, accurate, and stupid.
Humans are slow, inaccurate, and brilliant. When they are able to
combine effectively, the results will be unimaginable (p.94). I
aspire to demonstrate the unimaginable potential for instructional creativity
when teachers enhance their skills with the resources available through
computer technology and the Internet. Further, I hope that such an
alliance between teacher and computer can guide students to a similar alliance,
bringing student performance up to an unimaginable potential as well.
