Mary Walters was appointed principal of Murrieta Mesa High School on June 10, 2008. Walters has twenty-one years experience as an educator. She has served in Murrieta Valley Unified for 17 years, first as a teacher and as an administrator starting in 1996 and as a Deputy Principal at Murrieta Valley High School. Prior to coming to Murrieta Valley Unified, Walters was a mathematics teacher and coach at Perris High School for four years.
In making the announcement, District Superintendent Stan Scheer said, "We are excited about Mary's leadership at Murrieta Mesa High School and we look for her to establish a premier high school educational experience for the future students of Murrieta Mesa High School." Scheer added, "Mary has a wealth of knowledge and administrative experience at the high school level. Her depth of experience coupled with her stellar leadership and organizational skills are only surpassed by her passion for working with students, staff and parents and empowering students to excel." Walters holds a BS in Mathematics from Valparaiso University in Indiana, a M.Ed. in Education Administration from University of California, Riverside and a Tier II Professional Administrative Services Credential.
As Walters develops the school's academic and co-curricular programs she said, “The goal is to involve all Murrieta Mesa students in some type of club, activity, or sport in order to actively engage them in their high school experience and motivate them to thrive academically." Walters has included future students of Murrieta Mesa into the planning process saying, “The students, parents, staff and community are invaluable components of Murrieta Mesa. Their partnership is needed to develop and build a strong culture and traditions.” Walters said, "Opening a new high school is the opportunity of a lifetime and I am honored to be chosen to serve the students, staff, parents and community as Murrieta Mesa High School's principal."
