Community Awareness/ Connection
Being aware of what is in and around our local community is integral to the success of students. In additiona, navigating and interacting in one’s community is essential for quality of life.
Independent Living
These skills encompass many facets of adult life. Meal planning and preperation, advocating for oneself, and more. One key element is mobility training and utilizing public transportation. Driving a vehicle is not for everyone; therefore, knowing the ways in which to get around and to go places is critical.
Social and Interpersonal Skills
Getting along with others and understanding the nuances of language in social and more formal settings are taught at Murrieta Summit. Learning how to advocate for oneself by using communication devices or by asking questions and expressing thoughts is vital to becoming an adult.
Career and Vocational Skills
Job skills and training are worked on and explored. Students are provided with many opportunities to work in the community at local volunteer jobs or, students can hone in on their vocational skills and practice on-site in our student workroom at Murrieta Summit.
Recreation and Leisure
It is important to have fun at Murrieta Summit! Skills such as game playing, turn taking, and deciding on a hobby can be difficult for some students. At Murrieta Summit, teachers show students the ins and outs of proper game playing and sportsmanship. Students are also given an array of individual leisure activities to explore.
