About Avaxat Elementary
Avaxat Elementary School, a California Distinguished School, serves students in Transitional Kindergarten through Grade Five. Avaxat, an Indian word meaning cottonwood, is the second elementary school to be opened in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District. Avaxat Elementary is located on the northern side of Murrieta.

Description of Campus
The school has 27 regular education classrooms, 6 special day classes, 1 multipurpose room, a library, administrative offices, a cafeteria, a staff lounge and two play areas, one for TK/Kindergarten students and one designated for students in grades 1-5. Child care facilities for students in grades TK-5 are located on the west side of campus.
Year School Opened
The school opened in 1987 in temporary facilities and moved to the current permanent site in 1993.
Students will benefit from our strong standards-based curriculum which focuses on a TKindergarten - 12th grade sequenced curriculum and promotes academic success for all students. Technology has become an important part of our educational programs and we are fortunate to have many computers in classrooms, which are used extensively for student and staff training.
