    So Much to Say

A Huge Thank you to all who were able to attend last night’s Back to School Night. I realize it was early in the school year, but hopefully it was somewhat informative. I’ve been very impressed with my students so far, they are eager to become real 5th graders and are already on a good path. Once my class web page is completed, I make the presentation available to review.

    Homework

Monday will officially begin real homework. Count on about 60 minutes per night, which includes 30 minutes of reading. Please review your child’s homework, and sign the “Homework Agenda.” I’m expecting an adjustment period, however, homework isn’t new to these guys!

    Email List

I use email as the best way to communicate class announcements, school news, and to send out my monthly newsletter to help save paper! I check my email throughout the day. If by next Friday you haven’t received an email, I may have the wrong address.

    Supplies

Please try to have the supplies needed by Monday. They are very important to help with the class procedures and organization. The composition books, subject notebooks and lined paper are the items with most priority.

    Communication is Key

As I mentioned last night, this year involves a “Power Triangle.” Parents and teachers are working for the student’s success.   Like a circuit, all three components are needed for success. Keeping an open line of communication will only make this year that much more successful.

    Novels:

Teaching the curriculum through novel study is a great way to get these kids “Hooked on Reading!”

Below are the Novels we will be reading. Having a personal copy is great for annotation, notes and to build a home library

    • The Lemonade War – Jacqueline Davies
    • Shiloh – Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
    • Tuck Everlasting – Natalie Babbitt
    • Gregor the Overlander – Suzanne Collins
    • Sign of the Beaver – Elizabeth George Speare

We may get to add 1 or 2 more
