Miss Katie Richter

Hello! I'm Miss Richter and I will be your 5th grade teacher this year! I can't wait to meet you all net Friday, the 14th at 8 am. I will be emailing your families net week about how to log in to our virtual class. I am a very positive, optimistic person and I am looking forward to this new challenge of virtual school.

I love running! Well, to be honest, I love traveling to run races! My best friend and I like to run 10 Ks and half marathons. We have also run a few marathons (26.2 miles!). Our favorite places to run are at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. We have run the New York City marathon and the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC. We love earning and displaying the medals we get when we cross the finish line. I will share pictures of them with you when we start school.

I can't wait to share my favorite book series with you! Some of you may have seen my classroom last year and already have an idea what it is. I look forward to reading the first book with you and using it to learn grammar and to study narrative writing.

I know many of you are wondering about school supplies. Shopping the school supply sections is one of my favorite things to do. Now is the best time to purchase notebooks, penicls, colored pencils, scissors, etc. It is always fun to pick out the colors and designs you like. I know our learning will be online for the first part of the year, but I also want you to learn to take notes and practice your handwriting. We are also going to learn to use sketchnotes. Below are suggestions to have at home to be ready for school. I will provide lined paper and copy paper to those who will need it when you come to pick up your math and language arts books.

4 Notebooks (size does not matter) - Math, Grammar/Vocabulary, Writing, Social Studies/Science

Blank copy paper (maybe about 50 sheets or so)

Pencil sharpener (if you don't get mechanical pencils)

Scissors (always good to have a pair! You will use them in middle school too!)

Colored Pencils or crayons

Pencil Box

Have fun setting up a space in your home for learning. Take pride in organizing your materials. Maybe have a backpack or a bin to hold your math and language arts books. That way you don't lose them. We will talk about this on the first day of school.

I can't wait to meet all of you! I will be emailing families and sending them messages through Aeries prior to our first day of school.
