All children's educational computer activities were created or approved by certified school teachers.     Practice math facts with Level 1 addition and subtraction.  Level 2 may be used/played with caution.  "Regrouping" is not a 1st grade standard, but a 2nd grade standard. Until then, please encourage your child to count on or count back from a number to get the answer. It is important that first graders know the concept of tens and ones before learning how to regroup. 

    A set of flashcards where you can set a timer and number of problems.

    IXL's math skills are aligned to the 2010 Common Core State Standards, the 2008 California Preschool Learning Foundations, and the 1997 California Content Standards, providing comprehensive testing preparation.  With IXL's state standards alignments, you can easily find unlimited practice problems specifically tailored to each required standard.

    Even better, IXL automatically tracks student progress and displays proficiency scores in the state standards reports. These reports allow you to quickly evaluate student aptitude and identify trouble spots.

     

    Teacher Mr. Coley from Tovashal Elementary developed a set of flashcards that can be downloaded and used on your iPad, iPhone or smartphone.  Here are the directions:

    iPhone or iPod Viewing Instructions:

    1. Click here to download a .zip file containing flash card images (or click on the link above "100 Sight Word Flashcards...".  To download the file, right-click (control-click for Mac users) on the link and then select "Save Target As..." ("Save Link As..." for Mac users).

    2. Extract the images from the .zip file.  PC users: Right-click on the .zip file and select "Extract All..."  Mac users: Simply double-click on the .zip file.

    3. Sync the images to your iPhone or iPod.  Not sure how to do this?  Watch this short video to see how. (Please be patient, as the file may take a few moments to load.)

    4. To view the flash cards, tap or select Photos from the main menu of your iPhone or iPod, and then select the folder in which the images are stored.

    5. Tap or click on the first thumbnail image to begin the flash card slideshow.  Swipe or click the "next" button to advance to the next image.

    Note: These flash cards can also be transferred to and displayed on other smartphones such as Android phones and Windows Phone.  To sync to these devices, please use the software and instructions that came with the device.

    Accelerated Reader
    Accelerated Reader (AR) monitors your child's reading comprehension and vocabulary skills.  First, find a book or two that your child can read independently.  Secondly, check to see if the book is an AR book: Click here to see if the book is an AR book

    Last, log onto AR using the first letter of your child's first name and the first 4 letters of the last name together.  The password is ABC.

    Funology is a wonderful science website that contains easy, fun experiments along with facts, games, and magic tricks.  

    Starfall.com
    Starfall is a popular game that students enjoy playing at school.  It is an interactive phonics and reading website that can be played at different levels.  Also, visit the Writing Journal site to print worksheets that reinforce short vowels, long vowels, R-Controlled words and much more!     Junior Gamequarium is a math and reading website.  Games include ABC's, blending, nursery rhymes, and word families. 

    Scholastic.com
    Scholastic has games that go along with popular first grade books such as "I Spy", Clifford, and No David!.  It also has printable worksheets such as coloring pages, word searches, and mazes. 

    Spellingcity.com
    Here's a great way to practice spelling words and sight words.  Simply type in the words and your child can either be reintroduced to the words, play a game, or be tested.

    Mathplayground.com
    Another fun math website recommended by teachers.  In addition to its arcade-like games, this site offers word problems, logic puzzles, and math videos.

    This website has games across the curriculum:  language arts, math, and science.  It has numerous games that targets specific skills.  The website is designed to help meet 1st grade standards.  When you click on the subject (language arts, math or science), make sure you scroll down to see the specific games on a specific skill.
