Murrieta Mesa Physical Education Department
Mission Statement: The Murrieta Mesa Physical Education Department is committed to providing a comprehensive and engaging physical education program that promotes the development of all students’ physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being; giving them the knowledge and skills necessary to lead active and healthy lifestyles.
Goals and Objectives: Provide a student-centered approach to create an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages a love for physical activity and fitness. Offer a wide range of opportunities for students to experience various forms of physical exercise, team sports, individual activities, and recreational pursuits; exposing students to diverse activities to help them find their passions and develop lifelong habits of regular physical activity.
Curriculum and Content: The MMHS Physical Education Department offers a wide range of activity-based classes that follow the guidelines set forth by the California Physical Education Framework and CA State Content Standards. The focus of our P.E. program is to teach fitness principles that enable all students to develop skills and encourage exercise throughout their lives. We believe that fitness is essential to maintaining good health and is built through regular participation in aerobic and anaerobic exercise. We emphasize the importance of interpersonal skills such as communication, listening, problem solving, respect, self-confidence, a positive mindset, and relationship building through a variety of competitions, team-building games, and cooperative and performance-based activities.
MVUSD graduation requirements include two years of physical education, with one of those years being 9th grade P.E. After the successful completion of P.E. 9, students may choose from the many other courses offered within the physical education department.
