First Sergeant Huckobey completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego California, in March 1989 and then attended his primary MOS school, Field Radio Operators course. Upon completion of MOS school he was assigned to 2nd Battalion 11th Marines, where he participated in Operations Desert Shield/ Storm in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and he also participated in Operation Restore Hope, Somalia with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
In December 1993, First Sergeant Huckobey was transferred to 1st Marine Division schools where he served as instructor for the Company level Radio operator’s course. While assigned to Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division he assumed the collateral duties of 1st Marine Division Color Sergeant and was selected as the 1st Marine Division Marine of the Year. In July 1997, he was transferred to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego California, for duty as Drill Instructor, Combat Swim Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor with Echo Company, Second Recruit Training Battalion.
In November 2000, First Sergeant Huckobey was transferred to 1st Fleet Service Support Group. While assigned there he participated in numerous field exercises ranging from Bright Star in Egypt, Desert Symitar in 29 Palms and Kernel Blitz, Camp Pendleton. In February 2002 he was selected to serve as Communications Chief with MEU Service Support Group 15, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, in this billet he deployed to and was in participation of Operation Iraqi Freedom I.
First Sergeant Huckobey reported for duty as Assistant Marine Officer Instructor, at Rice University, Houston Texas in July of 2003. While assigned as AMOI he also was selected to serve as Platoon Sergeant at Officer Candidate School during the summer of 2004.
First Sergeant Huckobey was promoted to his present rank in April 2006 and reported for duty with 2nd Bn 4th Marines and served as Company First Sergeant for Golf and Weapons Companies. While assigned with 2nd Bn 4th Marines he participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08, attached to 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and completed another deployment with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. On 25 August 2008 First Sergeant Huckobey reported for duty as Headquarters Company First Sergeant, Weapons and Field Training Battalion.
First Sergeant Huckobey’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal with V device (3rd award), Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2nd award), and the Combat Action Ribbon (2nd award). He has been married for 35 years to his wife Tracy, and they have two children David (30) and Sarah (28).
