A.  Pronoun placement (Indirect, Direct and Reflexive) - MP pages 69-70

      1.  Conjugated verb?  Pronoun goes before the verb

            a.  Le di muchos consejos.  (IOP)

            b.  Ella se levanta at las 5 de la mañana. (Reflexive pronoun)

            c.  ¿Calorías? ¡Las contamos cada día! (DOP)

 

      2.  Verb phrase with infinitive or progressive (-ndo)?  Your choice Pronoun goes before the phrase or attached after the
            phrase (most popular).

            a.  me estoy entrenando

            b.  Miguel quiere afeitarse antes de salir con Maria.

            c.  Hermanita, puedes cepillarte el pelo muy bien.

 

B. Give Formal "Usted (-es)" Commands – MP page 71

 

   1.  Your Sp II book thinks you have learned "tú" commands, so here is a brief summary:

         a. for regular, positive "tú" commands, use the 3rd person singular.  That's it!

            1. Paco, nada en la piscina.

            2.  Maria, bebe mi refresco.

            3.  Ramón, corre en el gimnasio.

 

         b. Negative "tú" commands are tricky:  Take the "yo" form, present tense of most verbs, take off the "o," then 
             add an "-es" if  it is an -ar verb. Add an "-as" if it is an -er verb.

               1.  No comas dulces.          (Don't eat sweets)

               2.  No te sientas mal.          (Don't feel bad)

               3.  No tengas miedo.          (Don't be afraid)

 

   2.  Back to Ud. / Uds. commands

         a. like the negative "tú" command, these begin with the "yo" form (present tense) and then add the “-a” for -er and -ir verbs 
            or an “-e” for -ar verbs.  Positive and negative commands are the same. 

               1.  Sr. C, cante una canción.

               2.  Sra. Hess, traiga un video mañana

               3.  Director Pettengill, mire a los estudiantes buenos.  

 

         b. If it is an Ustedes (Uds) command, then add an "–n" (see step 2a, above)

            1.  Estudiantes, escuchen a la música.

            2.  Amigos, pongan su dinero en mi mochila.

            3.  Todos, levanten pesas con un compañero.

 

C.  Commands with pronouns (IOP’s DOP’s and Reflexive pronouns) – MP page 72

            1.  Affirmative commands attach the pronoun at the end of the verb.

                        a.  ¿Las cerezas?  ¡Comanlas!

                        b.  ¿Ejercicio?  ¡Háganlo!

                        c.  Todos, ¡mantenganse sanos!

 

            2.  Negative commands must place pronoun (-s) before the verb.

                        1. ¿Mi refresco? No lo beban.

                        2. ¿Cepillarse el pelo?  ¡No se lo cepillen!

                        3.  9th graders, ¡no se afeiten por un año!
 
            3.  Some common verbs have irregular usted commands:  (The "yo" form doesn't end in "o" so you can't follow the
                  first rule of forming Usted command...go through the "yo" form, then change the "o" to the opposite vowel)
                        
                        5 verbs:       dar       estar        ir         saber      ser
                      "yo" form       doy      estoy      voy          sé          soy
                Ud. command:    dé        esté      vaya      sepa        sea
                       Uds command:   den     estén    vayan      sepan      sean
 
                  1.  Estudientes, la clase terminó, váyanse (Positive command? Pronoun attached to the end of the command)
                       2.  Chicos, tenemos 10 minutos más, ¡ no se vayan ! (Negative command? Pronoun in front of command)
