Dear Students and Parents,

Welcome to 8th-grade science and 7th and 8th-grade AVID! My name is Mrs. Ritchie and I am excited to be your teacher this year. In case you're wondering, AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination.

All work and essential information for both classes is located on Canvas, where all assignments, announcements, and other important updates are posted. I will also keep current grades in the grade book on Canvas, so be sure to check in regularly to see how you're doing.

In science, we work through the NGSS standards assigned to the 8th grade. This will involve lots of hands-on experiments, activities, and opportunities for group work and discussions.

In AVID, we focus on developing study skills and strategies that will help you succeed both in our class and in your other classes as well. We will learn to utilize our notes to increase retention, practice organizational skills to increase academic success and collaborate through tutorials to ensure success through working with peers.

I'm looking forward to a great year with all of you, and I can't wait to see what we will accomplish together!
