• Student Fees

    The subject of student fees, charges, deposits, donations and fundraising related to courses and activities has been at the forefront of public attention locally and nationally. This information is offered to provide guidance and clarity for students, staff, parents and guardians surrounding the subject of student fees, charges, deposits, donations and fundraising. 

    The Constitution of the State of California requires that the district provide a public education to students free of charge. A student's right to a free education is for all school/educational activities, whether curricular or extracurricular, and whether a student gets a grade for the activity or class. Subject to certain exceptions, a student's right to a free public education means that students and/or parents/guardians are not required to purchase materials, supplies, equipment or uniforms for any school activity, nor can we require payment for security deposits for access, participation, materials, or equipment.  Under certain circumstances, students involved in extracurricular programs, clubs and/or sports may be required to attend fundraising events held by the program, sport or club just as you may be required to attend any other event put on by that program, club or sport. However, you will not be required to raise funds as a condition of participation.

    At the same time, we recognize the important role parents play in the education of their children and the need for an active partnership between home and school.  The voluntary support of parents/guardians, citizens and community businesses furthers our ability to offer optimal learning opportunities for students and we are fortunate to live in a community that places a very high priority on providing our young people with a first-rate educational program. 

    Parents, guardians, students, faculty, and staff should direct questions regarding student fees, charges, deposits, donations and fundraising directly to the school's principal.  Principals should contact the Deputy Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services for guidance and support with regard to school-specific questions about student fees, charges, deposits, donations and fundraising.
