Ballet Folklórico Corazon de mi Tierra

  • Murrieta Valley Unified School District’s Ballet Folklorico Corazon de Mi Tierra is a student-led group of 44 students from four different high schools who love to dance. We are not an organized sports team or class. The high school ballet folklorico came together out of sheer need to unify limited wardrobe resources for our Latino students in the district. Driven by three volunteer certificated teachers who love folklorico and music and have a unified vision, our high school ballet folklorico proudly meets, plans, and organizes an annual show that promotes the Mexican Heritage Arts within MVUSD’s high schools, one middle school and one elementary school.

Murrieta Elementary School Ballet Folklorico (MES) is a group of 70 students led by a volunteer classified employee, Veronica Rodriguez, and directed by a MVHS alumni, Instructor David Chavez.  Warm Springs Ballet Folklorico is a group of 7 students directed by MVHS alumni Alyssa Olvera.

Our experienced dancers instruct the new students’ dances by passing down the traditions of folklore from one year to the next.  One tool the Ballet Folklorico students used to communicate with each other is Band App. In the Band App, students document the 5 basic steps of folklore and share the choreography per song and region.  At in-person meetings, the students pass down an indispensable understanding of pace and spacing by giving first-hand experience of how to imagine the steps, the counts and how to glide through various stages or settings.  Students display their raw talent, not only in dance, but also by using technology. Students post posters and film each other to create short commercials for Instagram and use digital media to promote our annual show across campuses.
