Redistricting School Boundaries & Enrollment Balancing
-
School boundaries, also known as school attendance areas, are lines drawn around neighborhoods/areas that assign an elementary, middle and high school to a collection of homes. Periodically, these boundaries typically change in response to population growth or shifts and/or new housing development.
In anticipation of these developments and demographic changes, the district completed a facility needs study during the 2023-24 school year. The facility study conclusions were clear; there is an underutilization of space at some schools while others are experiencing overcrowding. In the absence of building new schools and projected housing developments within the City of Murrieta, the district must redraw the boundaries of attendance.

During the August Board of Education Meeting, trustees approved a community, data-driven process to redraw existing school attendance boundaries. The district has partnered with Woolpert, a consulting firm specializing in architecture, engineering and geospatial services known for its work with school districts nationwide on demographic and boundary projects. Woolpert has created a project website, where our community can view the project process, timelines, FAQs and open surveys.
