  • About Mr. Dowden

My Name is Mr. Dowden and I am excited to get to know each of you! I love examining history and using lessons from the past to understand the present and inform about the future. In my history classes, students will learn valuable skills: how to evaluate sources, analyze evidence, and think critically.

I was born in LA and my family moved to Murrieta when I was 12 years old. I've lived in California, Hawaii, Utah, and Texas. In 2012, I moved back to Murrieta. I worked as a Quality Systems Manager at an aerospace manufacturing plant for 10 years, analyzing and auditing systems and practices for efficiency and productivity before becoming an educator. My past roles at VMHS have included: Activities Director, ELD Coordinator, Wellness Room Coordinator, and PLUS (Peer Leaders Uniting Students) Advisor.

Modern World History    United States History

I am also currently co-advisor and founder of the Bronco Nation Association (BNA) Leadership. BNA leadership program and class is designed to promote a sense of unity, togetherness, and a shared identity among individuals attending Vista Murrieta High School. Students will engage in skilled leadership lessons, activities, and events that support student achievement, promote unity through cultural diversity, develop a climate of belonging on campus, and create partnerships with the community at large. Students will be inspired and inspire others to think, to learn, to create and care with C.L.A.S.S.

Bronco Nation's mission is to support student achievement, promote unity through diversity, develop a climate of belonging
