In 2016 for the fourth year running, Vista Murrieta's JROTC Unit won the Distinguished Unit Award with Merit and the Outstanding Organization Award for the school's Air Force JROTC.   Colonel Bobby Woods is the Director of  the Air Force JROTC units and he said, "Certainly many AFJROTC units are doing great things and having a positive impact in their schools and  respective communities.  But this unit truly represents the best of the 889 AFJROTC units worldwide.  The cadets, instructors, and school are to be commended for earning this award."
