How To Write a Play ReviewCharacter Analysis: A series of questions for students to discover the subtext of their characters for deeper understanding. Character AnalysisSCORING Analysis: Remember to attach each page of your script to the left side of your opened notebook. On the right side, divide the page into 5 columns. The script will be divided into "BEATS" (motivational units or sections of the script). Please number each beat then you should number the corresponding page of your notebook so that the scoring (analysis) matches with the dialogue you are "SCORING". The 5 columns are labeled as:Overall Objective (this usually stays the same throughout the piece; Monologue or Scene). This is what you (the character) wants and you complete this section by stating "I want to....."Keep it simple, you can act clear words / emotions. Not drawn out paragraphs.Immediate Objective (similar to O. O. but this changes beat by beat).Obstacle: this is what stands in the way of your character achieving your Objective. This may be physical, social or psychological, but there is an obstacle. Action Plan: this is what your character will try to do to overcome the obstacle. This may or may not work but it is how you are attempting to solve the problem.Personal Source: this is how you (the actor) can connect or relate to the character. It may be a connection to the emotion of the character, or to the situation. The idea is that you want to be as specific to your own personal experiences as possible in order to portray the character in the most believable way possible.Adv.
